Practical Online Training

Museums Australia (Victoria) are developing a series of free practical online training sessions reflecting best practice technique on caring for and providing access to museum collections. Below are the first few videos to be launched as part of this series.

Creating a Small Exhibition


Creating a small themed exhibition is a great way to showcase a particular story from your collection without having to rethink your permanent exhibition space. This video will illustrate how you can create a small one cabinet themed exhibit, or a series of cabinets to create an exhibition.

Photographing Your Collection Items


This video demonstrates ways in which you can use basic equipment to photograph your collection items for documentation and digitisation purposes. Using objects from the Museum Victoria Humanities Collection, Peta Knott demonstrates how to photograph a variety of items including three dimensional objects, shiny items, framed works and books.

Caring for Shipwreck Artefacts

This video and information sheet have been created for museums who are custodians of shipwreck artefacts. Using examples from Queenscliffe Maritime Museum & Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village it outlines preventative conservation methods for shipwreck artefacts that are within the capabilities of museum workers and volunteers and provides guidance on when to seek professional help.
