Museum Assistance Grants

NO FUNDING FOR MA (VIC) SMALL GRANTS

MA (Vic) has not received support funding for the Museum Assistance Grants Program* from Arts Victoria in 2011. Sadly, this means we cannot provide these small infrastructure grants and associated museum advisory services as planned for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Funding for all our other programs remains secure. MA (Vic) Exhibition Services will continue in 2011 however with $20,000 less funding for grants.

We have identified widespread ongoing needs among Victoria’s museums, galleries and historical societies for these modest grants which meet the costs of small infrastructure works in line with the National Standards. The MA (Vic) approach to delivering these grants together with advisory support has been very effective with wide-ranging benefits and we hope to re-establish and secure this valuable service for the sector in the near future.

These grants provide practical support for small but important projects that make a difference but can be hard to raise money for.

(*You may recall these grants as Building Better Regional Museums Grants in 2004, 2005, 2008 and Building Better Museums Grants in 2009. From 2010 they have been known as Museum Assistance Grants.)

Help us to lobby for the funding you need

If you agree that there is a need for this grant program to fund museums, galleries and historical societies, you can:

  • Put in an Expression of Interest for a Future Grant for your museum, gallery or historical society or other organisation with a public collection to preserve and share. Your Expression of Interest will help MA (Vic) to talk to Arts Victoria, state government and other potential funding bodies about what is needed, where and why it is needed and how it will make a difference. We need your Expression of Interest by Friday 11 March 2011 at the latest.
